Caseys and Meldrims

One of Major John Berrien's daughters, Sarah Lowndes Berrien, married John Aloysius Casey, a surgeon. Casey came to Savannah in 1819 to open a clinic with one of the Major's sons, Richard McAllister Berrien, to treat victims of yellow fever. Unfortunately they each successively succumbed to the scourge.

Sarah's grandaughter, Frances Casey, married Judge Peter Meldrim and lived in the Green-Meldrim House. Upstairs, there is a room with a portrait of the Major.
